Yankees have first place all to themselves - for now, at least

While the Mets had the dramatic walkoff win, and the Yankees had a rather pedestrian victory last night, at least the Bombers gained sole possession of first place for the first time since September 2006. Hooray!

I don't really have that much to say about last night's game - I missed part of it, and what I did see wasn't exactly drama-backed.

Hopefully Andy Pettitte will be able to make his next start - he left the game after five innings due to his back.

Anyhow, I'm curious to see what kind of reception CC Sabathia will get for tonight's game. Will he get booed? Cheered? Both?

At any rate, he will not get booed as much as A-Rod does in that ballpark!

In other news, I heard that the Mets have finally come to their senses on something. No more "Sweet Caroline" in the eighth inning! "Meet the Mets" was played last night instead. But I have a question - did the song mention Shea, or did they edit that part out? And was it the original version of the song, or the 80s one?

If only the Yanks could come to their senses on that horrible "Cotton Eye Joe" (yes, that is the correct spelling.) Hate it.

What do you think? Leave us a comment!

Squawker Lisa, Metsblog reports that they played the original version of "Meet the Mets." The 80s version added the Shea reference. Let's hope that "Sweet Caroline" is no more!

Cotton Eyed Joe was cute for a while. But it is time for that one to join Clemens back into seclusion in Texas.

I actually went to that Friday night game, my first visit inside Citi Field. And I noticed the original 1962 "Meet the Mets" recording. But I'd overlooked the lack of "Sweet Caroline." Which is odd, because Neil Diamond actually is from New York, which is what those Chowdaheads should have realized before they ever started playing the song.

I absolutely loathe "Cotton Eye Joe." And the guy the Yankees used as "Cotton Eye Joe." And the younger guy they now use as "Cotton Eye Joey." Is it true that the original CEJ was dumped because he showed up drunk? I heard that also happened to the original Bernie Brewer in Milwaukee. (Hey, you dive into enough giant beer mugs... )

Those Mets are so dumb, they can't tell the difference between Johan Santana and Mike Pelfrey anymore. How can I say this? Because Pelfrey pitched brilliantly and they only got 1 run and 4 hits for him in 8 innings. If not for Omir Santos, they would have lost 1-0.

Uncle Mike, how about a report of what you liked/didn't like at Citi Field, and how it compares to Yankee Stadium? I'm curious as to hear your thoughts.
