Oy! The YES Network is getting on my last nerve

Forgive me for interrupting this historic day with a rant. But is it just me, or is this Opening Day being covered like a FOX broadcast? And, needless to say, that isn't a compliment.

Let's review:
  • We have lousy video - not only was the camera work horrible on Yogi Berra's first pitch, but it wasn't even aired live. And the introduction of the old-time Yankees didn't match the faces.
  • We have Fox's "American Idol" representative in Kelly Clarkson (Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon, to name two artists, are Yankee fans. But we get Kelly Freaking Clarkson instead. I guess Sanjaya was busy.)
  • We have the incessant shilling for products and amenities that have nothing to do with the game at hand. Yes, I'm sure there's all sorts of tasty treats at the Mohegan Sun Sports Bar. But I don't need to have half an inning wasted on hearing about it.
  • We have more emphasis on a Bernie Williams interview than the game itself. I like Bernie an awful lot, and I like his new album. But I would still rather watch the game.
  • And we have netting. Lots of netting. $1.5 billion on a stadium, and they couldn't figure out a better way to station the cameras. Are you kidding me?

Did I miss anything?

  3. I was stunned that they did not show the 1st Pitch from Yogi Live
I had both YES and MLB Network on and neiether showed it. Also I cannot believe that Extra Innings did not show the ore-game show, they joined in at 1 pm.
Very poor TV Coverage by both YES and MLB Net.

  4. I'm at work so I can't say too much now, but I've got the VCR running while I use MLB.com Gameday on my computer. I'm still old-school, but I gotta keep an eye on things.

But I do have to ask: Why was Sabathia taken out? Is he hurt?

  5. I catch the YES broadcasters on MLB when the Sox play the Yankees and I can tell you they are not half as bad as the Ray's announcers. Talk about painful.

  6. Ladies and gentleman, how do you like the score: 10-1 Indians.

Makes me wanna puke. Disgusting. Bullpen totally imploded.

  7. Now's the time for the dopey interviews!

  8. No it's time for the new bullpen ace Nick Swisher to finish the game. He might turn out to be another Bob Lemon.

  9. How sad is our bullpen - and Girardi's use of it?

  10. With games like this Girardi should be gone by the time A-Rod returns. Girardi's bad decisions:
Not keeping long reliever, keeping Pena over Berroa, playing Ransom even though he is completely lost, keeping pitchers in way too long--also lets put some blame on AAA coaches Long and Eiland-2players out of 9 hitting(Swisher&Cano) Pitching selections by Eiland and Girardi are terrible.
All of this in the house that Tax Payers built!

  11. Those of you saying Girardi is on the hotseat... who should replace him?

    Earl Weaver?

  12. In the 7th inning, this game was still 1-1. If you'd told me before the game that would be the case, knowing what I know about our hitting and Mariano Rivera, I would have gladly taken that.

This better not be what I think it is: The REAL "Curse of the Bambino," the Babe being mad that King George moved the Yankees out of his house.

It took the Boston Celtics 13 years out of the Boston Garden to win a World Championship -- in fact, until 2008 they'd never even gotten to the Conference Finals. The Montreal Canadiens moved out of the Montreal Forum at the same time, and I think they've won exactly one Playoff series since, still stuck on 24 Stanley Cups. (Yeah, there's 29 other teams that would love to be "stuck" like that.) Are the Yankees headed for the same?

They'd better not be. But I hope George was in the house, so he could see just how little the new Stadium he wanted so much helped the team.

At least -- no, at most -- Jorge Posada hit the first home run in the new Stadium. He deserves it.

But I am furious at this result. It is completely unacceptable, and I don't care what kind of talent the Indians have. Yes, they're better than last year and their start this year would indicate, but we cannot allow things like this to happen.

  13. Jeez guys,

relax its one game. I remember the Indians beat you guys one game by 20 in 2004 and you still made the playoffs.

Stadium looks nice but it seemed quiet. It was quiet enough to hear all of the rich fans monocle's falling into their champagne glasses after the grand slam.

  14. Ever hear of the old Latin saying, "In Vino Veritas"? Well, I'm changing it to "In Veras Clobberus" meaning when Veras pitches, Yankees lose. Between him and "Things Don't Go Better With (Phil) Coke", we are lucky to be 5-5.

  15. I was expecting Billy Joel and not Kelly Clarkson, a Texan. And yes, how come the guys from 1996 up to now get more cheers than a lot of Hall of Famers?
It looks like the Yankees forget that they are in the Bronx and not in Park Avenue.

  16. To Jonmouk71:

    Now THAT'S FUNNY!

I'm hope that Joba pitches well today and we can actually GET to Bruney and Mo.

I think that the bullpen will straighten itself out... I think, I hope....I guess....welll....

  17. Jonmouk: Why stop there? I'd like to teach the Coke to pitch! No Coke, no smile! Coke is NOT it! Even Mean Joe Greene wouldn't want that Coke! Kids, stay away from Coke! He's cracked and he's wack!
