Some thoughts on Andy Pettitte and Kansas City

It was good to see Andy Pettitte have a great game yesterday, after the suckitude that was his pitching for the second half of last season (the new site Past a Diving Jeter took a look at his numbers.)

I also had to laugh that Kerosene Kyle Farnsworth got booed from Kansas City fans on Opening Day. Then again, he had the last laugh - on the Yankees at least -when he struck out the side.

And Sidney Ponson wasn't as terrible as expected. That's something right there!

The newly-renoved Kauffman Stadium looks beautiful. But the Kansas City ballpark was already one of the nicer ones I've been to (love the fountains.)

Looks like they still need to work on the food, though, if this photo gallery is any indication.

Kansas City does have one of the best home uniforms in baseball. It's classic. Too bad their teams haven't been as good as those uniforms!

While the renovated stadium looked terrific to me, Kansas City Star columnist Jason Whitlock wasn't as positive:

Kansas Citians love to fill Kauffman Stadium for the home opener and get liquored up. It’s St. Patty’s Day II, only everyone wears powder blue and pretends to love the Royals. The rest of the spring and summer, the same Royals diehards worry about the Chiefs’ draft and minicamps, spring football at Kansas and Missouri and highway construction going to the Lake of the Ozarks.

The “New K” makes perfect sense when 30,000 fans are inside. It won’t make any sense at all if the Royals keep scoring one run a game, fall to the bottom of the American League Central and draw 15,000 in June.

Harsh!
