Separated at birth: David Wright and the Great Gazoo?
I don't mean any disrespect to David Wright - I understand he's wearing that new batting helmet to protect himself after a concussion - but gee, that helmet does make him look like the Great Gazoo from "The Flintstones."
Sorry, I couldn't resist!
Between the two Red Sox "dumb-dumbs," in Gazoospeak - Kevin Youkilis being Fred Flintstone and Dustin Pedroia as Barney Rubble - and Wright as Gazoo, we'll soon have enough baseball people to recast "The Flintstones! (Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon can make a cameo as Mr. Slate!)
Incidentally, Squawker Jon does not like "The Flintstones" - he thinks it's merely a cheap ripoff of "The Honeymooners."
Do you have any baseball/Flintstones suggestions? Leave us a comment!
Met fans are the Loyal Order of the Water Buffaloes.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking he was lookin more like Dark Helmet...
ReplyDeleteBoy, you people are mean winners.
ReplyDeleteHow about Toad from Super Mario Bros?

Actually, wasn't it the Red Sox of the 1970s that had the Buffalo Heads?
ReplyDelete"The Flintstones" absolutely is a ripoff of "The Honeymooners." Except their Norton (Barney) is fat, too, works in the same place as Ralphie Boy (Fred), and doesn't wear a dopey hat.
Now, a Met fan is more like George Jetson. Met fandom is like the treadmill in the closing credits: "Help! Jane! Stop this crazy thing!"
Hating "The Flinstones" because it was a "ripoff" of "The Honeymooners" is nonsense. Why not say "The Honeymooners" is a ripoff of Laurel & Hardy, while you're at it? Heck, you can go back to Shakespeare's comedies and find fat, blustery oafs with thin, slender nincompoop sidekicks (Twelfth Night, for example). I can like them both for what they were and because I was entertained.
ReplyDeleteThis is what happens when YOUR team is so pathetic that you have nothing else to write about. You make up stupid crap about the other teams. Calling Jonathan Papelbon "Twinkletoes" when your own closer is the biggest queer in baseball? Making fun of David Wright's helmet? What the hell is wrong with you people? And you wonder why people hate the Skankees?

ReplyDeleteNot only stupidity for calling the greatest closer of all time something so lame as "queer" and the Yankees pathetic but also proves fans like you don't have any reading comprehension since it was Youk she called Twinkletoes NOT Pap.
Once you grow up hopefully you will not make such "pathetic" comments...
Peggy
Go Yankees 2009 !!!
oh yes ..and when you grow up you won't use such childish words as "skankees" too...

Go Yankees 2009 !!!
Oh Yes, Peggy, you are so right. And the lofty pursuits of Yankee fans and bloggers are so mature; you know, like comparing grown men to cartoon characters. You can dish, dish, dish, but ....

ReplyDeleteThe difference is when it is done in jest or bitterness ...
By your comments ...I think you fall into the 2nd category...
Peggy
Go Yankees 2009 !!!
Peggy = sanctimonious. No really, it's right there in the dictionary.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that YOU get determine jest or bitterness. The only bitter ones are the Yankee fans whose team is playing fantastic and whose fans thinks it gives them the right to rip apart players. But God forbid anyone comment on one of theirs. But, oh that's right, you are only doing it in jest. Honey, if that's not bitterness for making up for a lousy humiliating decade, I don;t know what is.

ReplyDeleteHoney ?? Only Yankee fans can call me honey ..lol...
When it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck ..it usually is a duck and your comments lend to bitterness...maybe you should read them over again.
I love being a Yankee fan ..I have been for 48 years. I've been there through good and bad times and right now I'm really enjoying my team...both in their baseball ablities and personalities. Besides ..I don't think missing the playoffs one year in this decade is what I would call lousy & humiliating. I think you should look up your definitations before using certain words... :o). I never mock any team, I never boo players either Yankees or otherwise and I appreciate baseball enough not to use stupid words such as "skankees" for any team. I might not like the Sox or the Mets but I don't use derogatory terms when referencing them or any other team. I didn't write these posts either ...just commented on them. Actually I did say that Pedroia could be Barney as opposed to Youk's Fred. You really must grow a thicker skin if you think this is so "horrible". I think referring to Mo as "queer" is much worse.
Anyway..enough banter for now..going back and forth could take up a day. I have things to do and people to see with hopefully watching a Yankee win tonight...
Have a good day ...
Peggy
Go Yankees 2009 !!!
Peggy,
ReplyDeleteyou have a good day too and just so you know I wasn't the blogger who wrote "queer" and I really could not agree with you more about that!
But I have to say that there are a lot more interesting things to write about than cartoon characters and I wish Lisa would raise the bar a little bit.
