This is a big moment in the history of the Subway Squawkers blog - we got mentioned in the "Bats" baseball blog on the New York Times' site (click here to see.) And we owe it all to Squawker friend Jane Heller, with an assist from my cat C.C.
Let me explain. Best-selling author Jane Heller, whose book "Confessions of a She Fan," about being a Yankee fanatic, you simply have to read (Lisa's Book Club gives it a hearty thumbs-up!) has had quite a year:
First, her book was released the same day as another baseball book you might have heard of - Joe Torre's "The Yankee Years." Yet another reason I hold a grudge against Teflon Torre!
Then, the Yankees refused to let Jane run an ad for their book in their Opening Day program - an ad which featured the Squawkers, by the way (click here to see the ad). Some dunderhead in the front office reportedly said it was "too controversial"!
Fortunately, USA Today's Sports Weekly commemorative issue on the new Stadium offered to run the ad. (In the end, it all worked out well, as I see that special issue - which has the Subway Squawkers blurb - every time I'm in a bookstore or convenience store. It's everywhere!)
On a more scary, wildfires hit Santa Barbara recently, where Heller and her husband live. So, to keep her mind off impending doom, she watched the Yankees, read other Yankee blogs, and did her own squawking about baseball - and the wildfires - on her Confessions of a She-Fan blog.
One of the things she read was this Squawker post, "Watch the Fur Fly at Yankee Stadium," where I suggested that the Yanks fill the luxury seats with cats, including my own cat C.C.. My feisty feline has a lot she'd like to say - or meow - to CC Sabathia!
Anyhow, now that things seem to be okay with the fires, Jane wrote about the wildfires - and what she read in the Yankee blogosphere - in the New York Times baseball blog, "Bats." And she singled out my cat blog entry in her article! Whoo-hoo! I'm so excited!
Thanks, Jane! Squawker Jon and I really appreciate it.
One other note - in addition to everything else Jane's got going on, she's running a contest to win a Flip Video Camera. Click here to check it out.
