Squawker Lisa, the Citi Field Jinx

It seems like every time I go to a Met game with Squawker Lisa, the Mets lose. Tonight we were at Citi Field to see the undefeated Mets. The first batter, Ian Desmond, homered. The jinx was on.

One look at the Mets' lineup and I knew it would be a long evening. No David Wright. No Ike Davis. Ronny Cedeno batting second. Jason Bay hitting cleanup.  At least David Wright should be back soon, I thought.

Then I got home and found out that his finger was fractured. Can we blame this on Lisa as well?

It must be the Lisa jinx. How does Daniel Murphy save Monday night's game in the field and revert to the Murphy who can't field when Lisa's in the house?

Bobby Parnell comes in the game, and by the time I finish telling Lisa how he's turned over a new leaf this year, he's given up two doubles, another hit and a walk.

Against my better judgment, I bought in to the Mets' fast start while seeing it on TV. Then you go to a game and find yourself sitting in a mostly empty ballpark where the biggest cheer all night was for a girl who correctly guessed which Met cap on the video board hid the bag of potato chips.

When we left the ballpark, we headed for the platform where the express 7 train left for Manhattan last year, only to find that there were no express trains tonight. Are the crowds too small to bother with express trains now?

Tomorrow will probably be warm and sunny (we could have used blankets tonight). Johan Santana against Stephen Strasburg. There's a chance things could go well for the Mets - Lisa and I won't be at the game.

I would just like to take this opportunity to remind the entire greater NYC metropolitan area that, as of today 4/19/2012, the METS have a better record than the scum of NY, aka the Yankers. I realize that only 12 games have been played so far, and there are 150 to go, but it's still worth noting that as of today, the Mets are better than the Yankers.

The Mets, who everyone expected to do nothing this year, after letting Jose Reyes walk and with all of the problems created by greedy Fred Wilpon, have a better record than the scummy Yankers, who make a point every year to remind the world that they are expected to win every game, every award, every championship, and anything less is a failure.

There is only one word to describe the joy, and I will quote your own pathetic 3rd baseman: HA!

Just for today, life is sweet.

How do the standings look now? Yankees 10-6, Mets (in a far weaker division) 8-8.

As usual, you don't comprehend what you read.

"As of today...". Uh, today (April 19) has passed. Everyone knows and expects that the Mets will not end the season with a better record than the Yankers.

But as of April 19, the Mets did have a better record than the Yankers. And as of this today (April 25), the Mets and Yankers are only one game apart (Mets: 9-8, scum: 10-7). And the Mets did not have to spend $200M to get that way either!

So again: HA!

There is nothing in this world more pathetic than the Yankers, except for one thing: their fans.

"How do the standings look now?"

About as good as they do today (4/26). Mets and Yankers with identical records, after the Mets beat the Marlins (again) and the Yankers got humiliated by the Rangers (again).

The NL East is a far weaker division? Yeah, that's why the aggregate record of the 5 teams in the NL East (52-39) is SO much worse than the aggregate record of the 5 teams in the AL East (49-40).

Go ahead Mikey: open mouth, insert foot.

Well, what did you expect? The Mets were playing a team with that loser Jose Reyes on it. The Bad News Bears could beat Reyes!

In fact, I think they just did.
