What's the deal with the playoff hats?

Check out my Faster Times piece on the Yankee hats for the AL East clinching, and how they bear a close resemblance to the Red Sox's Wild Card caps.

Oh, by the way, love how Boston had to do a middle-of-the-night celebration after they backed into the Wild Card with the Rangers loss, after the Sox lost five games in a row. And the Red Sox didn't allow the press in, either. I've never heard of such a thing. Maybe the Sox were embarrassed at such a lame premise for a celebration. Or maybe they were doing some evil - or should I say wicked? - Boston rituals. Who knows?

Squawker Jon and I are going to the Bruce Springsteen show tonight, so I'll miss seeing the Yankee game live. Of course, given the Mets' shoddy play, Jon doesn't have anything to miss!

Lisa,

You know that blog you wrote a few days back about the teams that are hot going into the playoffs are not usually the winners? I hope you are right about that.

Good Grief Sox!

Nam ...

Last night's game was over before it started for the Sox considering it was the PawSox against Halladay. He's tough on the regulars forget about those unsuspecting kids who had to face him.

We had regulars for most of the game and didn't fare that well either but that's ok as long as they do whatever is necessary in the playoffs. All I can say about Joba is ..."oh boy". If he does pitch in the playoffs will it be good Joba or bad Joba. He pitches great against the Sox and can't do anything against KC ..go figure.

Anyway ...three more games which in reality are meaningless except for a few personal stats. I'm hoping CC can get that 20th win and Tex the 40th homer.

Bring on the Tigers OR Twins (who are winning at this moment and making it hard on the Tigers).

Actually ...I guess not all were unsuspecting kids in the Sox game ..it just seemed like it.

Besides....once the playoffs start it's a clean slate and anybody's ballgame...hot teams win, cold teams win and no matter how may predications there are ...that's just what they are predications ..not results.

The only thing I dread about the playoffs is the fact that once they end so does baseball for a few months.

Here's hoping for an exciting post season...

I don't mind having no baseball for a few months if I can bask in the pride of a Yankee WS championship!

I'd have 4 1/2 months to feel reminisce on a really spectacular season.

Peggy,

Thanks for encouraging words. Thank goodness they won last night. I don't want them to forget how to do that. But you are right about the clean slate. I guess it is better that they rest some key/injured players than win.

Happy Friday!

Emp ..

Baseball is like a drug for me and when I don't get my daily fix I crave it ... :o).

I guess a few months off is good tho' to regroup and start anew. Like you said ..if the Yankees win the Championship it will make those off months very enjoyable and much easier to take.

Happy Friday to you too !! I have tickets to the ALDS Game 2...looking forward to it. I'm just waiting to see who we play since the Twins are making it tough on the Tigers and having it go right down to the bitter end.

Peggy,

It is kind of exciting to have something go down to the wire. At least it keeps you focused on something until the playoffs start. I am leaning a little for Detroit just because that poor city needs something to keep their spirits up. At least the Lions won for the first time in about three years last week.

And I know what you mean about the withdrawals from Baseball. Thank goodness I follow football too. Maybe I will get some of those pesky chores done once the baseball season is over!
