What is the meaning of this Tim Wakefield/Jonathan Papelbon pose with...Captain Morgan?

It's not even Talk Like a Pirate Day, but don't tell that to Boston Red Sox pitchers Tim Wakefield and Jonathan Papelbon. They're here yukking it up Monday with Captain Morgan and a few of the pirates' friends at a charity event for Ryan Howard's foundation.

I don't quite know what to make of this photo. It's silly, but it's not quite ridiculous enough. They should have made Papelbon - aka Cinco Dopo - dress like a pirate, and it would have been an All-Star classic pic!

Of course, the Yankees already had a Pirate play for them - Carl Pavano stole money from them for four seasons!

(Thanks to Boston.com for the photo.)

Are you bored? Did you finish the Munson book and need something to do?

What's the matter, NAM, are you waiting for Carlton Fisk to finish his book? After all, he was the second-greatest catcher in the American League at the time. Why hasn't he written his book yet? Wait, he was a Red Sock, he has to learn how to read first.

As for the current Red Sox, I guess they're still "Idiots." Have they not paid attention? From Pittsburgh to Somalia to Wall Street, this has been a very bad year for Pirates.

Yes, I know, Papelbum was (at least officially) the winning pitcher in last night's All-Star Game, but seeing him and Wakefield with "Captain Morgan," I'm reminded of the words of Captain Kirk: "Beam me up, Scotty, there's no intelligent life down here."

See, here is the difference between us Uncle Mike. I don't need to argue the point or even make the point. I love Carlton Fisk and I love the Red Sox and berating the Yankees doesn't make it any better for me. The constant need you and Lisa have to tear down the Red Sox speaks volumes about you, not about me. Too bad and too sad.

"Tear down the Red Sox"? That's what you do when your team is in second place and your arch-rival is in first. Worked for us in 1949. Worked for us in 1978. Worked for us in 1999. Worked for us in 2006. Alas, not always...

Then again, the Red Sox have that big green wall in left field.

"Mr. Rodriguez, tear down this wall!" And do it with men on base!
