What should Mark Teixeira's home run call be?

Now that Mark Teixeira is officially a Yankee, it's time to figure out something important. No, not where he should bat in the lineup, but what John Sterling's home run call should be for him!

Here are some suggestions:
  • Tex wrecks it!
  • Teix-share and share alike!
  • Look-a there-a - it's Mark Teixeira!
  • That was no M.T. hit - he got all of it!
  • The Tex-Bino!
Are these cringe-inducing? Of course. But let's bear in mind that Sterling is the person who came up with the "Robbie Cano, don'tcha know" and "You can bet on Betemit!" calls.

Of course, I'm not the first Yankee blogger to try to come up with Sterling's Teixeira call. The Yankee fan blog Scott Proctor's Arm wrote these suggestions for the broadcaster:
On the Mark
Tex Marks the spot
Mark it down
And as Wikipedia notes in its entry for Sterling:

One of his signature radio remarks is his home run call "It is high, it is far, it is gone!" Sterling usually follows with one of his patented player nicknames, which have become well-known to the extent that new ones can be highly anticipated:[15]

And guess which source the person used for that tidbit?:
^ Swan, Lisa; John Lewin (July 29, 2008). Let's come up with a home run call for Xavier Nady", New York Daily News. Retrieved on 4 August 2008.
Whoo-hoo! We made it into Wikipedia! True, they misspelled Squawker Jon's name, but still!

Also, back in 2007, we made it into Deadspin when I tried to come up with Sterling's home run call for Shelley Duncan. Speaking of which, Duncan was designated for assignment yesterday. No word on whether Sterling will come up with a DFA call for him.

What do you think? Do you have any home run calls of your own? Leave us a comment!

You mention John Sterling, Lisa. Wow, I really miss hearing his voice and all his corny-but-fun "Sterlingisms".

I miss baseball. Today it's January 7, the weather is giving us freezing rain and ice. I hate Winter with a passion and Spring Training cannot come fast enough.

By the way, you took all the cool Sterlingisms for Tex. I can't think of any more good ones to come up with.

I love that you're in Wikipedia! As for the home run call, I'd go with "Tex Marks the Spot," but hopefully Sterling will come up with something corny and great.

Sterling drives me NUTZ! His most famous call is: "It is high, it is far, it is caught!"
Please let him just call a game. When I am out of town and listening on radio I call friends to find out what actually is happening on the field. Was it a close play? High, low, line drive, looping into center field? What is going on! ARGHH!

Here is my fantasy homerun call:
"Teixeira hits a line drive, (insert player name here) runs back, way back, jumps up against the wall, the ball barely skims over his outstretched glove, into the stands. 3 runs score, and the Yankees win the World Series for the
27th time!"

"It is high, it is far, it is caught!"

You know, JeanneB, you're absolutely right about that - I hate it with a passion when he does that. He gets you all psyched that it's a homer, then at the last minute he delivers a surprise punch right to the gut. At those moments I could choke him.

Otherwise, I like Sterling and I do enjoy his commentary, even though he repeats himself 10,000 times a night.

"It is... GONE! A home run for Mark Teixeira! The Tyrannosaurus Tex!"

So the Indians signed Carl Pavano. Where have you gone, Wayne Garland? Northern Ohio turns its lonely eyes to you! Woo-woo-woo! (If you don't remember him, do yourself a favor and ask somebody who's NOT an Indians fan!)

Now that's a really good one, Mike!
