Thoughts on Jim Rice's comments about Jeter, A-Rod and Manny

Saw that Jim Rice had the nerve to criticize Derek Jeter, as well as Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez. He's already getting some grief for that!

It's not exactly breaking news that a Red Sox would think that Yankee players weren't so great (although I guess he didn't get the memo that ever saying anything about Derek Jeter other than how he's the bestest player ever will get you in trouble!)

Oh, and by the way, for all the "selfish" adjectives thrown A-Rod's way, he is the one who gave up the chance of going down in history as the greatest shortstop ever to become a Yankee. And Jeter is the guy who refused to play in the WBC unless he started over the superior shortstop, Jimmy Rollins. Just saying.

Nor is it breaking news that an old-timer would criticize current players as being not as good as his era. It's only been going on for 100 years or so!

Anyhow, about the only Hall of Famer who didn't seem to think his era was the best might have been Ted Williams (although I could be wrong with that recollection of him never griping about the kids these days.)

So really, considering the source, I don't think that Rice's dopey comments are any big deal. But I'm sure I will be in the minority in thinking that!

What do you think? Leave us a comment!

I think Rice would be critical of many in this era, He is alot like Bob Feller, who told me he was not impressed by Nolan Ryan.
Not many people like Ted Williams who late in his life had high praise for many of the current athletes,

By hearing more about this Rice thinks Jeter is a druggie,
He thinks of todays players only Ichiro, Griffey and Thome (Obvious he never did roids) deserve to be in
the HOF
Rice thinks Every other player who played in the last 15 years are Roid Scum
It is a good thing the Red Sox oes not do old Timers days otr Yankees invite out of town player anymore,
He would get drilled by ex Red Sox Pitchers wo played in the last 15 years

Jim Rice needs to hand over that 1978 MVP award to Ron Guidry. If the Sox had an ordinary player in left field, they wouldn't have played a 163rd game -- and with him, they still didn't play a 164th game. If the Yankees had an ordinary pitcher in Guidry's spot in the rotation, 25-3 becames 14-14, and they're 11 games back and in 4th place. So until Rice tells the truth, that he was NOT the most valuable player in the American League that season (capitalized or otherwise), I don't want to hear a word out of him.

Rice now says he was mis-quoted.
I think all thew greenys he did while he was playing has short-circuited his brain.
